Elliot Baker is a twenty-year-old freelance journalist and journalism student, currently based in Brisbane. He writes for online and print lifestyle publications, specialising in the topic of food and drink.
He has been written about and featured in numerous print, digital, and broadcast media publications including The Courier Mail, The Age, The South-East Advertise, Broadsheet Media, and was interviewed live on television by Channel 10’s Studio Ten.
His greatest opportunity arose from his encounter with The Australian’s chief food and drink journalist, John Lethlean.
This led to two articles in The Weekend Australian, one written by Lethlean about their encounter, and a week later, Elliot’s first published article in the same column. This experience had a great influence on a fourteen-year-old Elliot, and set him on the path of becoming a journalist.

After a three-month internship at the end of 2016, Elliot now writes regularly for Broadsheet Brisbane about Brisbane’s newest restaurants, cafes and bars. Elliot interviews the owners and writes articles about the interesting stories that lie behind their venues. He also writes for The Upsider, Australia’s newest premium lifestyle website.

From twelve years of age, Elliot gained work experience (known as staging) in restaurants and understands how tough the hospitality industry can be. Around that time, he decided to channel his passion for the food industry into his blog, Musings of a Young Gourmet (MYG). MYG features restaurant reviews, recipes and travel pieces. His early self-publishing efforts can be attributed to the development of his writing over the years and has led to his participation at a young age in professional editorials. At the conclusion of Elliot’s high school years when his friends chose to go to ‘schoolies’ on the Gold Coast, Elliot spent three-weeks in Barcelona. During his gastronomical holiday, Elliot had the privilege of dining at El Celler de Can Roca, which was titled ‘The World’s Best Restaurant 2015’ by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Elliot’s other interests include listening to alternative music, live music and travelling.
